Growing up in foster care gave me the chance to really hone my whining skills. It was all about me when I wanted something and when I wanted something. I was one of those children who you would see in the grocery store throwing a 5 alarm fit. I wouldn’t have wished me, as a child, on anyone. I know there were times I drove my parents insane with my whining and carrying on.

If you've read my blogs, you've learned by now we try to combat getting upset, mad, or angry at our children by finding new and creative ways to generate laughter.  The goal is not to win the war of power struggles.  It's being able to redirect the childs, and our, energy to something more positive.  This is a win/win for both the parent and the child.

My wife tina and I have a child with Reactive Attachment Disorder (RAD).  In the beginning we tried to nurture and love the child as much as we could.  We gave and gave and gave of ourselves.  The child took and took and took and over time drained us.  We became frustrated with ourselves thinking that we were doing something wrong.

My name is Daniel Hall my brothers and I had to endure horrible things during our childhood. Maybe it was being beaten, constantly tied down, severely neglected, or sexually abused that made me wonder who I was and why I was placed on this earth. I had been on this earth for 5 years and already I hated my life and wished I could just curl up in a ball and die. I hope my stories growing up and foster parenting experiences will help others on their path of parenting and understanding.
